I maintain my previously stated belief that querying involves a great deal of emotional whiplash.
Thankfully, I’ve completed three novels (of various draft status), and am working on a fourth since the beginning of my querying journey with Making & Killing, so there’s plenty of emotional distance between us at this point.
Here is the current status of that manuscript:
Three agents requested some pages and passed, while two others requested the full thing and “didn’t feel inspired” to sign me. But! An agent still has my full manuscript and is currently reading it!
Aside from that, you know, there are plenty of outright rejections and “no response means no” rejections. Thankfully, that emotional distance I mentioned has come in handy when you’re looking at over sixty “No’s.”
